Metal siding is a facade material that is used for cladding houses, shops, and residential buildings. It is used not only for finishing new buildings, but also for renovation of old ones. It is a panel, long and lightweight. They can be presented in various forms, for example, to imitate the shape of a beam or a stone.
A sheet of this material has a multi-layer structure and can differ in the top layer, that is, the material used for the outer coating. The basis of the sheet is galvanized steel, the thickness of which can be from 0.35 mm to 0.65 mm (without zinc). It is covered with a conversion layer on both sides to improve the adhesion of the paint to the metal and increase the practicality and durability of the entire panel as a whole. Then, the wrong side of the product is covered with paint, and the front with a layer of primer and then with polymers. The following types of polymer coating are used to cover the front side of the sheet: polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyester, plastisol, polyurethane. Each of these polymer materials has its own advantages, so the price of metal siding as a whole depends on the choice of polymer coating.
For example, polyvinylidene fluoride has high chemical resistance to high temperatures and is resistant to acids, alkalis and solvents. It has a low specific weight, but is quite durable. The service life exceeds 50 years.
Polyester is the most democratic in terms of price. It has a large assortment of colors, it can be matte. Plastic The service life is 20 years.
Pural (polyurethane) is characterized by high strength and resistance to ultraviolet radiation. It will serve you for at least 30 years.
Plastisol is resistant to corrosion and the influence of external factors. The maximum temperature is 120 oC. The price is acceptable for consumers with an average income level. The period of operation is more than 30 years.
Types of metal siding
There are four main types:
vertical (mounted vertically);
under a tree;
wall (ship board, Christmas tree);
soffit (exists with and without partial perforation).
On a note: if suddenly the manufacturer does not have all possible types in stock, it does not mean that it is a bad manufacturer. The initial costs for the production of metal siding are quite high (expensive equipment), so often the manufacturer presents to the market two or three types that are in maximum demand among his target audience.
Metal siding, like any other material, has its pros and cons. It has many advantages and only two disadvantages.
So, let's consider the positive sides:
